The world
A medieval home world, with gates
The home world is medieval: towns with guards, banks and healers, wilderness to gather in, mines, dungeons and land to build a house on. Work carries weight: an ingot can become a sword, a commission, a theft or a recovery.
- In development
Kingsford
The capital
The capital, at the mouth of the River Wend, and the city where new characters will start: two banks joined by bridges, the keep, the harbor and the guildhalls. It is the largest piece of the pre-alpha and still under construction; today's test does not start here.
- Playable today
Brindlecross
The mining and lumber town
A walled market town up the river, with guards, a bank, a healing shrine, a smith, a tailor and a square full of people with routines of their own. Around it lie the forest, the quarry and the mine: what is gathered and risked there feeds the trade of both towns. It is where today's test begins.

Beyond the gates
The odd side
Old standing stones, raised by people nobody remembers, open onto other places: dimensions with their own look, rules and creatures. One of them is a contemporary city, and it gives the game its name: seen from the medieval world, it is the odd side. Things, people and trouble from there leak across.
Why the stones open at all is the question the world itself keeps asking. The answers stay in the game.
The odd side is not in the test yet: it arrives in later waves.
How it plays
A classic sandbox, honest about what exists
Each card says how far the idea has come. Anything not marked playable is still design, and rules and numbers change with every test.
- Playable today
No classes, no levels
There are 41 skills that grow with use, not with accumulated experience. At creation you choose three, which start at 30.0; mining, smithing, magic and combat live in the same character, up to a cap of 700 points in total. Only some skills train today: the others show as coming soon in the creator, until their trades exist.
- Playable today
Real-time combat
Target, attack intent, reach, line of sight and wind-up. The auto-attack follows the weapon's timer; abilities come from the action bar, on a 1.5 s global cooldown. Skill, not a level, decides how well each action works. It is a combat pilot: fine-tuning depends on more testing.
- In development
Real risk
The base already runs in the test: war mode, the downed window, the defeat bag with full loot, notoriety (blue, gray and red) and guards. The pre-alpha takes it to both towns and the open land: outside the walls PvP is open and what you wear and carry can be taken; inside the towns there are guards and law zones. Skills and what is in the bank are never at risk.
- In development
Protection for newcomers
Every new character is Young: no player can harm them, they cannot harm anyone, and if a creature downs them what they carry stays protected. The status ends at 20 hours played, a skill at 60.0, or when the player gives it up. Those limits are hypotheses to test.
- Playable today
PvM against wildlife
Hares, stags, gray wolves, boars and black bears outside the walls, each with its own behavior: grazers flee, wolves hunt in packs at dusk, boars and bears turn when struck, and every creature returns to its home ground. Hides and meat as items to gather and sell are still to come.
- Playable today
A world on a real-day clock
One game day is one real day: day length, the seasons, the sun and the moon's phases follow the real date. The server decides weather per region (clear, cloudy, drizzle, rain, fog, storm), and weather changes what is worth doing. Residents have trades, hourly routines and lines, and guards answer crimes.
- In development
Trades and commerce
Mining, blacksmithing, lumberjacking, carpentry and tailoring: dig the ore, smelt it, forge, sell and bank, with risk on the road. The first complete chain, across both towns, is under construction; without it most of the 41 skills have nowhere to grow. Direct trade between players already works.
- Planned
Housing
Deeds bought from the architect, land scarce on purpose, doors and keys, permissions for friends. A house is a protected base and an activity in itself. It is part of the pre-alpha, on Larkfield, the housing area near Brindlecross.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is Oddside?
A persistent open-world online game, a classic sandbox: you work, trade, fight, lose and recover in a medieval world where choices carry weight. There are no character levels or permanent classes: you are what you practice. It is a 3D game for Mac and Windows.
Can I play it yet?
Partly. Oddside is in pre-alpha: there are builds for Mac and Windows on this page, and anyone can join the test server. Much of what is described here does not exist yet, and every card in How it plays says how far it has come.
Will it be on Steam?
The plan is a Steam Playtest, a closed, wave-by-wave test, before any release. There is no date. The game's Steam page does not exist yet; once it does, the wishlist button appears on this site.
How much does it cost?
The pre-alpha test is free. The game's business model is not defined yet and no prices have been announced.
Which systems does it run on?
Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 11 or later) and Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. There is no Linux build yet.
What happens when my character is defeated?
Nobody dies in Oddside: at zero health a character is downed for up to 30 seconds, drops what it wore and carried into a defeat bag at once, and then wakes at the healing shrine. An ally can spend a bandage to help them up. Skills and what is stored in the bank are never lost.
Can other players attack me?
That is the idea: outside the towns PvP is open and loot is full. Inside the towns there are guards and law zones, and notoriety (blue, gray, red) shows each player's reputation. New characters will have the Young status, which protects them while they learn; it is under construction.
Do I have to pick a class?
No. There are 41 skills and you choose three to start with. All of them grow with use, and the same character can mine, smith, fight and cast.
When do houses arrive?
In the pre-alpha: houses come to Larkfield, with a deed bought from the architect, doors and keys and permissions for friends. They are not in today's test yet.
Which languages is the game in?
Brazilian Portuguese and English, with the same text in both.
What data do you collect?
Your Discord account data (identifier and name, no email), your character data, and game and security logs. The details and your rights are in the privacy policy.
